DHA/AA Module

  • Description:

    DHA/AA Module is a powder containing the omega 3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and the omega 6 fatty acid arachidonic acid (AA), in a 1:1 ratio combined with protein and carbohydrate. A food for special medical purposes.

  • Indications and Prescribability:

    DHA/AA Module is for use in the dietary management of Peroxisomal Disorders such as Zellweger Syndrome, Refsums Disease, Neonatal Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) or other conditions requiring a supplement of the long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, (LCPUFA), DHA and AA. Suitable for infants, children or adults.

    Peroxisomal Disorders
    Peroxisomal disorders include a wide range of disorders, with a number of different enzyme defects resulting in defective metabolism of very long chain fatty acids (VLCFA), especially C26. The diversity of clinical symptoms include mental and physical retardation. Low brain levels of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) have been observed in early onset peroxisomal disorders. The benefits of supplementation with long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC PUFA), DHA and AA is currently under evaluation.

  • Suggested Intake:

    The quantity of DHA/AA Module should be determined by a clinician or dietitian only and is dependent on the age, bodyweight and medical condition of the patient.

  • Preparation & Administration:

    DHA/AA Module can be blended with foods.

  • Precautions:

    Use under medical supervision.
    Not suitable for use as a sole source of nutrition.
    Not for parenteral use.

  • Storage:

    Unopened, DHA/AA Module must be stored in a refrigerator.
    Once opened, close container immediately after use.
    Store in the refrigerator and use within 4 weeks.
