• Description:

  A chocolate flavored powder free from phenylalanine but containing a balanced mixture of the other essential and non-essential amino acids, carbohydrate, fat, vitamins, minerals and trace elements.

• Indications & Prescribability:

  For the dietary management of proven phenylketonuria (PKU) in children over the age of nine years and adults. Suitable for use by pregnant women with PKU. Supplemental iron may need to be provided during pregnancy.

• Suggested Intake:

  The recommended dosage of Periflex Advance (Chocolate) is dependent on the age, bodyweight and medical condition of the patient.

• Preparation & Administration:

  Periflex Advance (Chocolate) is best served as a chilled drink.  Add the prescribed amount of powder to a shaker, add the desired volume of water and shake.

  It is recommended that the patient starts at a 1 to 5 dilution (e.g. 100g Periflex Advance (Chocolate) plus 500mls water) and builds up to a 1 to 4 dilution (e.g. 100g Periflex Advance (Chocolate) plus 400mls water). 

  These dilutions are guidelines only.  Periflex Advance (Chocolate) may be given in a more concentrated form e.g. a paste or concentrated drink; water or chilled drinks should be offered at the same time.

• Precautions:

  Must only be used under strict medical supervision.  Not intended for use as the sole source of nutrition. Not for parenteral use.  Not suitable for metabolic disorders other than PKU. Not intended for infants or young children. Diet must be supplemented with natural protein and other nutrients in medically prescribed quantities to supply the phenylalanine and general nutritional requirements of the patient. 

• Storage:

  Store in a cool, dry place.  Always replace container lid after use.  Once opened, use within one month.  Once reconstituted, the prepared feed should be stored in a refrigerator and must not be kept longer than 24 hours from the time of preparation.  Stir or shake immediately before use.
