Dear friends,
I´m from Spain.
I´d like have got a blood test machine to the phenilalanina test, like one of them that diabetics have got for their blood test.
Have you got this machine in UK?
Does this machine exist in UK?
I know that this machine existes in USA.

Hi Marien,

I am an adult PKU patient who was off diet but has recently gone back on diet. I don’t go to a metabolic centre because I have a GP (local doctor: not sure what you call them in Spain) who is familiar with the disorder. Having had to go back as an adult to work out what I should take really put me off: we don’t have many adult centres in the UK and I had to be seen in a childrens hospital.

I would love to have a home testing kit but my doctors says that because there are not that many of us the cost of such equipment will be high. That is why we do not have it yet. I read the link you put and it was very interesting. I noticed that it was written in 2004: and we still have nothing yet.

I think I will write to my MP to see if he can put any pressure on the situation.

Regards,

Pippa

The cost can be reduced if all in the world ask this machine at the same time.

It´d have to be an Association job.

Govern can subsidize the price to persons with financial troubles.

I’d love to have my own blood test kit and it’s not even because it’s all that hard for me to have it done locally. My closest centre is only 15 mins away.

The reason I’d love one is because it’s another way of taking control. At the moment I monitor my diet, I monitor my protein supplement intake and I’d like to see the results of this by monitoring my blood phe levels.

I’m sure one day soon we’ll have access to these kits. I’m just tired of waiting!!
