Dietary Management of Inherited Metabolic Disease - April 18 2008

The DMIMD meeting continues to grow and evolve as the premier event to be updated on all aspects related to Inherited Metabolic Diseases. The feedback received from delegates indicates that this international meeting provides an invaluable opportunity for the exchange of ideas into the latest developments in the dietary management of metabolic disease.

The following interactive workshops were held on day 1:

1. How to meet the challenges of difficult issues with in PKU.
2. Motivation and adherence in metabolic disease.
3. Management of Glutaric Acidura Type I

The following lectures were presented on day II:

1. Overview of essential fatty acids in PKU.
2. LCP status in the paediatric PKU population.
3. The UK untreated PKU study.
4. An introduction to maternal PKU.
5. Late treated PKU.
6. Adult PKU.
7. Protein requirements and the use of amino acid supplements in patients with IMD.
8. Low protein food cooking.
9. Compliance and transition from paediatric to adult care.

There were also case presentations:

1. Glutaric aciduria type II.
2. Dietary management in 2 children with glutaric aciduria type 1: practical issues.
3. Successful pregnancy in methylmalonic acidaemia.
